Chemically Vermiculite [(MgFe)3(SiAlFe)4 O10-4H2O] is a hydratedbiotite Mica that has undergone alteration by further hydration. It can be used as a grog for a lightweight refractory, or as an aggregate forcast refractories, being resistant to fairly high temperature.
The use of Vermiculite can be classified as :
- Filler in Paint, Plastic, Ink, Insulation bricksand castabels, as lubricants in oil drilling sealentsin underground mines, at the base of railway coachesfor anti corrosion and anti vibration.
- Construction: Thermal insulator in buildings, acoustical insulation and insulation of AC ductswall plaster aggregates.
- Horti Agri-Cultural: Water retention medium,seed coverings, anti cracking agents, floral arrangements, water purification, soilless potting & fertilizer.
